The Yambiro 
Irrigation Project

A LIFE CHANGING PROJECT


A group of 28 Indigenous women from Yambiro, a small agricultural community near Otavalo, Ecuador has embarked on a mission to bring much-needed irrigation water to our village, a critical resource for both our families and our livelihoods.

Empowering Indigenous Women

A Community Project

For months, 28 women have worked tirelessly, volunteering their labor alongside the support of others, to construct an irrigation system that is now 80% complete.

Cultivation of New Crops

Improving both Income and Nutrition

Over 100 families will be able to cultivate crops, improve nutrition, and generate income from selling produce at nearby markets

Program for the Elderly

Inspired by the Ali Shungu Foundation Summer Vacation Program
for children, volunteers of the community
 provide activities in art, music, gamess and nutrition for the elderly of Yambiro.

Many of the elderly in the community live alone and have little positive activity and nutrition.  Twenty eight elderly from the community spent several days enjoying the activities planned by volunteers.

Socializing and interacting with each other is an important part of staying healthy.  Exercises, games, dancing, crafts and providing healthy meals improves lives.

An Andean tradition.


Passing out hundreds of  "navidades", bags of animal crackers and candies, is a yearly tradition for the Ali Shungu Foundation.
